An enthusiastic and dedicated service backed up by years of experience in both scholarly and commercial publishing. The Science Factory, founded in February 2008 by Peter Tallack, is a leading UK literary agency specializing in stimulating nonfiction written by public intellectuals, academics and journalists. Its main aim is to popularize fresh ideas and arguments. So it is selective in the authors it takes on, concentrating on top authorities who have something original and important to share with a broader audience, and creative writers who can open up new worlds for general readers. Authors are individually handled by Peter, most having been with him since their first book. He also takes on established authors as well as new writers, liaising closely with them all to give |
inspiration, advice and support from pitch to publication and beyond. The Science Factory is committed to expanding its brand internationally. Peter works much of the time out of London and Hamburg, recruiting authors from as far afield as the US and Canada, New Zealand, Denmark and the UK, and selling rights to publishers in most territories around the world. Peter studied genetics at University College London before beginning a ten-year stint on the editorial staff of Nature where he ran the commentary and book-review sections. In 1998 he was appointed publishing director of Weidenfeld & Nicolson, commissioning many acclaimed titles for its popular science list. Some three years later he joined Conville & Walsh as an agent and director. An author himself, he has written In the Womb and is editor of The Science Book. He has also reviewed for many newspapers and magazines. |
